BATIK
on IndoArtNet

Making Batik is hard work. One layer of wax per colour, applied manually using a Canting (pen with hot wax reservoir) or - in case of repetitive designs - with a Cap (chiseled copper stamp dipped in hot wax), a bath in dye, fixing in acid, lots of rinses in clean water, drying and the process starts all over again for the next colour. No wonder cheap textile prints are taking over the market, even in Indonesia - the ancient home of Batik.

But nothing beats the vivid colours, intricate designs and long lifetime of real handmade Batik. Whether traditional Sarongs in natural colours made from plant dyes, colourful shirts and other clothes for informal occasions or abstract modern arts by masters of the genre, Indonesian Arts Network has teamed up with makers of the best Batik in Indonesia. We sell in all quantities and designs. Please let us know what you are looking for. Custom designs and wholesale enquiries are especially welcome.

We have stock of a full selection of high quality Tulis (completely hand-drawn with a Canting molten wax pencil), Cap (repetitive designs chopped with finely ciseled copper stamps) and Kombinasi (combination) Sarung (approx. 100cm/39" x 200cm/79") and Kain Panjang (approx. 100cm/39" x 250cm/98") textiles in 100% cotton in all regional styles and designs, including Yogyakarta, Surakarta/Solo, Pekalongan (incl. rare Kedungwuni Chinese Batik), Cirebon (incl. the Trusmian Cloud Motive), Indramayu, Madura and even Timorese Ikat.
